ACPC Derby 2025 Run for the Roses was a Hit

On Friday, April 2, we had our annual ACPC Run for the Roses. In preparation for the event, students had learned about the Kentucky Derby in Music and Library, made horse heads to fit pool noodles in art, and had preliminary races in gym. We also had special dress up days the week of our Derby.

For our big event, our school assembled in our gym with special musical guests attending. The Adair County High School Choir joined us to sing both our National Anthem and My Old Kentucky Home. We also had a bugler, Kimberly Pedro, to play for us as a call to the post when racers prepared to line up. The older students also loved participating and cheering on the young racers.

One of the highlights was when some of our staff kicked off the event with their own races. They were dressed as a character or with a character. They were highly entertaining as usual. Kayla Sallee was our staff winner this year. Then each grade level had the winner of their classroom race against other classroom winners until we had the grade level champion. At the end of the event we had the ultimate race with each grade level champion in the final race. Our overall 1^st place champion was Ellison Houchens, the 2^nd place champion was Luke Colon, and the 3^rd place champion was Weston Hatcher.
